Awards

Theater at Emory offers awards to exceptional students to recognize and encourage progress and promise in the classroom and in production.  Awardees are selected annually by theater faculty and staff, as well as by Friends of Theater at Emory.

The Alice N. Benston Award in Theater Studies

Awarded annually by departmental faculty to not more than two graduating seniors or recent graduates who have shown exceptional dedication, promise, and intellectual rigor to encourage their continuing education in theater. Prize is accompanied by a cash award of $1,500.

The Brenda Bynum Theater at Emory Award

Awarded annually to the student who has offered selfless and generous contributions of time, ability, and enthusiasm to the Theater Studies Department, Theater Emory, and student theater - to the whole of Theater at Emory.

The Friends of Theater Emory Award

Endowed through the Theater Endowment Fund. The winners are selected by the Board of the Friends of Theater Emory and the Faculty of the Department of Theater Studies.  Two awards may be given each year.

  • To a graduating senior in recognition of outstanding artistic achievement, leadership, and valuable contribution through a body of work to Theater Emory. Includes a $1,000 cash award.
  • To a professional Guest Artist with a demonstrated record of mentoring students, artistic achievement, and valuable collaboration through a body of work to Theater Emory.

The Fine Award

Bestowed annually upon a junior or senior Theater Studies major or minor who has shown outstanding ability in acting. Prize is accompanied by a cash award of $1,000.

The Louis B. Sudler Award

Each year the College also gives two awards for outstanding student achievement in studio art, creative writing, dance, music, and/or theater.
